On October 5th, AMSA UPH hosted a seminar on Diabetes Mellitus type II as a form of an open recruitment for the 2013/2014 batches. This event was held in Binong after only five weeks of preparation. Just like planned, the participants came for registration at 7, where they each were given a coupon that would be their ticket to all the event highlights, which are the blood glucose test, snack, blood pressure test, lunch and free general consultation. In groups of 10, they had a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood with 2 of the committee members present. The participants then got their blood glucose tested once they have returned from the walk. They were given the test result & snack, and were asked to sit down to watch a tutorial cooking video of one of the menus recommended for people with DM. When the video ends, Soyjoy stepped in with a short presentation regarding DM.Afterwards; the participants had a little fun with the committees as they all danced to the music played by FK UPH 2013's band, The Doctors. Right after, everyone sat down and listened to the seminar. After that, there was a quiz, where the questions were taken from the seminar and the fastest 2 participants with the correct answers would get prizes. Then the closing ceremony took place, and AMSA UPH’s representative, Ernestine Vivi Sadeli and the head of the event, Catherine Ranatan, set two doves free.Soon after, all the participants lined up to get their blood pressure tested and names on the free general consultation list. While waiting for their turn, they had lunch with a menu that is safe for those with DM. It took a couple of hours for the consultation to finish, but in the end everyone on the list got their turn and went home with the medication given.Keep ACT-ing :)by: Marissa Christy
