EAMSC 2012 Infectious Disease
Battling the Enemy on All Fronts
On January 15-20 2012, delegates from all over Asia and
Australia came to Singapore to join the East Asian Medical Student Conference
2012. 5 delegates from AMSA UPH also participate in the total of 43 students
that represent Indonesia in this international event. And in those five days,
medical students from all countries will participate on the academic lectures
and competitions, cultural events, and also social programs.
The first day began with Welcoming Party. All delegates were divided into groups, which allow us to meet new friends from other countries, and a group moderator will lead the group. The following days will be filled with academic lectures, workshops, and competitions. At the evening, the group moderator will take us to many interesting places in Singapore, such as Singapore Flyer, Night Safari, The Merlion, etc. On the last day, a Cultural Fair was held. Each country will have a booth representing their cultures and country. We also join the cultural workshop such as the Henna Painting, Chapteh, Indian dancing, and lantern making. The very last event is the Cultural Night. Each country will perform something on the stage. Indonesia performed the Papua dance, Saman dance, and a choir with angklung as a background music.
The academic competitions in EAMSC 2012 are: Health Campaign Competition, Scientific Paper Competition, White Paper Competition, Scientific Poster Competition (Regional Category), and Scientific Poster Competition (Open Category). In the end, Indonesia won the Gold Award and Merit Award in Scientific Poster Competiton (Open Category).
EAMSC provides an opportunity for medical students to meet and discuss the current medical and health issues in medicine. It challenges us to be proactive and speak out while also cultivating our social awareness to the community. It is also an avenue to learn and experience the cultures and traditions of different countries. This five-day conference will transform strangers into life long friends, and establish a strong network among the medical students in Asia and Australia.
